About Italian

The Italian language is one of the most popular and revered languages in the world. It is spoken as an official language in Italy, but is also widely spoken in Croatia, Switzerland, Malta, and Vatican City. The Italian language is closely associated with arts and culture in Europe, and was at one time one of the most widely spoken second languages. It was commonly used both in business and politics throughout Europe. Today, Europeans and Americans alike often wish to learn Italian so that they can enjoy the great works of Italian Literature and to be able to visit Italy and communicate with the locals, since Italy is a popular European tourist destination. Interestingly enough, Italian is the closest language to Latin, using most of the original Latin vocabulary. Being a Romance language, it is also closely related to other European languages, such as French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Because English and Italian are both Indo-European languages, there are many similarities that can be found between the two vocabularies: essentially, every English word that has its roots in Latin is similar to its Italian cognate. However, a student of Italian must learn vocabulary, grammar, syntax, pronunciation, word order, and expressions, all of which can be quite challenging. As a result, working with a one-on-one Italian tutor can be a great advantage for a student of Italian at any level.
