Ana
Greek
Serbian
Ana was born and grew up in Belgrade, Serbia. She graduated with a B.A. in Modern Greek Language and Literature, and an M.A. in Linguistics, both from the University of Belgrade. Before moving to Seattle, Ana has taught, translated and interpreted Greek in Serbia for six years. Ana has experience in teaching both adults and children. She assisted in teaching Greek at the University of Belgrade, taught at elementary school level and gave individual and small-group private lessons. Ana has also tutored Serbian to speakers of other languages. While living in Greece, Ana immersed herself into the Greek culture and customs, which became an integral part of her classes. Likewise, learning Serbian from Ana also means learning about the people and the folklore of Serbia. As a speaker and a learner of several other languages such as English and Italian, Ana intimately understands what it takes to excel in a foreign language, and is passionate about transferring that knowledge to her students.

Italian
Andrea has taught Italian and German at Bellevue Community College. At South Seattle Community College he helped to initiate the Italian program and, for some time, Andrea taught for the Berlitz School in Bellevue. For some time Andrea also taught French classes to elementary students in Seattle. Andrea grew up in Switzerland and was raised bilingually: German and Italian are his mothertongues, though he learned French at a young age, studied it for many years and also attended the University of Lausanne in the French speaking part of Switzerland. Andrea is a Swiss certified teacher with over 12 years teaching experience and has worked for more than seven years in junior high, and high schools teaching French, German, German as a foreign language and Italian classes. As a trained teacher in language acquisition and more importantly, as a learner of different languages, Andrea has a personal understanding of the difficulty of learning a foreign language at an advanced age. With plenty of experience, extensive training in different teaching methodologies and most importantly with a lot of humor and in a personable, stress free atmosphere, Andrea will teach you not only your language of choice, but will also prove to you how fun learning can be.

Portuguese
Ana is a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker with fondness for grammar and literature. She graduated in Social Communications with emphasis in Journalism from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná, located in her hometown of Curitiba in the South of Brazil. While in college, she taught English in a private language school. After graduating, she worked as a culture reporter for the biggest daily newspaper in Curitiba. Ana moved to Seattle in 2004 and has been teaching Brazilian Portuguese for adults and children since then. She also studied Spanish while living in Brazil. |

Bill
Arabic
Bill was born in Kafarshima, Lebanon, South East of Beirut. In the early 1970's Bill came to the USA and graduated from the University of Washington in 1975 with a degree in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures. Furthermore, Bill pursued additional studies and successfully graduated with a Business degree. Besides teaching Arabic at Seattle Languages and in various local High Schools, Bill writes his own poetry and works as an interpreter and translator. Bill is active in the community as founder and former President of the American Lebanese Club of Seattle, a leader among the Arab American Coalition of Washington. He has been invited to several High Schools and Colleges, including the University of Washington, for cultural presentations and has spoken on various panels about the Middle Eastern conflict. As a native speaker and experienced teacher, Bill understands how to incorporate the ethnic nuances of the Middle Eastern civilization in his Arabic language classes. |

Bouchra
French
Bouchra was born and raised bilingually in Paris, speaking French and Arabic. After graduating from business school, Bouchra moved to London for 6 years where she continued her studies though shifting her focus to the Arts and Arts Management. Her personal experience gave her a deep appreciation for the challenges that a language student faces when starting out or improving their current level at an early or advanced age. Her group and individual classes are focused on accommodating each individual’s profile and level in a very relaxed, interactive atmosphere that suits adults and children alike. While teaching the language, she also enjoys sharing her knowledge of French culture. Bouchra has always appreciated the beauty and power of the different forms of human expression and believes that learning a language is not only an opportunity to extend our way of communicating and expressing ourselves but also a means of extending our life experience. |

Chia-Ching
Chinese
Chia-Ching was born in the city of Nantou, Taiwan. Since 2004 she has been teaching Mandarin Chinese in several public schools and has provided private lessons in the Seattle area. Before she moved to the United States she taught English for two years at different private preschools in Taiwan. Chia-Ching is also an artist who enjoys writing Chinese calligraphy. She believes that learning a language takes motivation and commitment and feels that having a good teacher to lead the students along can make all the difference. |

Christine was born and raised in the Northwest of Germany. She studied German and Religion at the University of Bonn to become a professional teacher and passed the first state examination with distinction. Christine completed the traineeship for teachers at a private High School, where she mainly taught classes for students between the ages of 10 and 19. Overall, she stayed two years at this school and passed the second state examination, also with distinction. After Christine moved to Seattle, she started teaching at Seattle Languages International, where she is mainly teaching adults. She also works with young children at a local private school. The ability to present the German culture and German language to children and adults makes the job as a language teacher very rewarding for her.

Italian
Cristina, a native Italian, born in Milan, received a B.A. Degree in Fine Arts from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She has been working as a Illustrator since 1995. As a part of her creative background, Cristina enjoys traveling. Her deep interest in art, culture, and languages have given her the opportunity to work for the Italian Culture Institute in Europe, Africa and Mexico. Cristina has been teaching Italian language and culture since 2001 when she moved to Japan for more then one year. In addition to her native language, she speaks fluently Japanese and English. Cristina moved to Seattle in December 2006 and has been teaching Italian for Seattle Languages International ever since.

Daniele was born and raised in Italy. He studied Italian and English for the last 25 years and also learned Latin at an early age. Daniele holds a degree in Translation and Interpretation and has been working as a translator and as a simultaneous interpreter for the last 6 years. For several years he has been enjoying teaching Italian classes in Seattle. Daniele has a profound command of the Italian and English languages and has translated various books published in Italy. Recently Daniele has started to work for Microsoft as a specialist in the Italian linguistic field. |

Elena holds a degree in Latin American Literature from Earlham College. Married to a Mexican and having lived in Mexico for several years where she attended school and worked, Elena is practically native in Spanish and has been a language teacher for many years. She currently works as an English and Spanish instructor for Seattle Languages International and also works as a Spanish medical interpreter. |

Estrella

For over 20 years, Estrella has been teaching English as a foreign language to students from almost every continent. Her students range from elementary school students to executives of bio-tech companies. She develops her curriculum after listening to their needs. Her clients' requests include increasing English fluency, preparing formal speeches for American audiences, and communicating more effectively with Americans. She also helps American employers improve working relationships with international employees through the understanding of cultural values. Estrella received her Masters of Education from the University of Washington and her Bachelors of Arts from Seattle University. In addition to English, Estrella speaks Cantonese fluently and can converse in Spanish. She has lived in three countries with cultures very diverse from each other and involves herself with projects that bring people together.

A native of Zürich, Switzerland, Eugen learned Latin, French and English during his college years and holds a Law Degree from the University of Zürich. Besides working for 16 years as a self-employed lawyer and a member of Zürich's School Board, he taught law at a local college. Since his arrival in Seattle in 2001, he has been teaching both High-German and Swiss-German at all levels to students of all ages, one-on-one and in groups. Eugen is an experienced world traveler who has visited most European countries as well as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Fabio

Italian
Fabio has taught Italian and German in several states, both in the private and public sector. He is perceptive of student's needs and has experience in assessing learning goals and methodologies that will work best with each student. Fabio grew up in southern Italy, but later lived in South Tyrol, the German-speaking part of Italy that borders with Austria. Fabio left Italy at 16. He earned a degree in Hotel Management and worked in Norway, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Fabio taught German for several private schools in Utah, Colorado and Washington, among which he was a professor's assistant at Brigham Young University and an instructor at Colorado Free University. Fabio also taught English as a second language for German immigrants in Salt Lake City and currently teaches German at North Seattle Community College. Fabio is a contributor to the "Italian in 10 minutes a day series" published by Bilingual Books, Inc. He also currently teaches Italian at Highline and Bellevue Community College. Finally, as a law student, Fabio is a legal translator for the Italian Consulate in San Francisco. Fabio has an in-depth knowledge of phonetics and the reproduction of sounds. He will be able to teach you how to sound the closest you can to a native speaker of Italian or German. He is outgoing and enjoys teaching in a fun and entertaining environment. |

Federica was born and raised in the beautiful city of Rome, Italy. She has a degree in Translation and Interpreting. In May 2005 she moved to New York and then to Seattle where she married her husband. In Italy she worked as a translator at the Sacred Heart Convent in Rome, translating religious poetry into English and Spanish. She is currently an Italian instructor for Seattle Languages International and loves teaching her language and introducing her students to the beautiful Italian culture. She likes traveling, cooking and watching movies. |

Turkish
Ferdi was born in Mersin, Turkey. Speaking only French at home and attending all schools in French, he became fully bilingual. Today he speaks and teaches French and Turkish. Ferdi holds also a translator certificate for the French language obtained from the Marygrove College of Detroit. Besides being a very experienced language instructor, Ferdi has considerable knowledge of Turkish and French Literature and History.

Fumiko was born in Japan and grew up in New York. She has extensive experience teaching in Japan and in the United States. While living in Tokyo, Fumiko worked in different marketing communications companies. Since moving to Redmond 10 years ago, she has completed a Japanese Language Instructor Program and has been teaching private and group lessons. Fumiko really enjoys working with students of all ages, regardless of their skill level. She believes that everyone should learn at their own pace and is very willing to customize her teaching to each student’s individual needs. |

Hong “Anna” was born and raised in Beijing, China where she worked as a reporter and editor for Xinhua news agency. Anna holds a B.A. in Chinese Language and has taught in several language schools in Washington D.C. After coming to Seattle she continued to teach Mandarin. Today, with over 7 years of experience teaching Chinese, she is regarded by her students to be a truly gifted teacher. |

Ida
Spanish
Ida has taught ESL and Spanish to children and adults for over 20 years. She has an M.A. in TESOL with a minor in Bilingual Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a B.A. in Early Childhood / Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish Literature from Queens College, CUNY. A native of Cuba, she grew up bilingually in New York City realizing that one day she would be a teacher. After a few years teaching in N.Y.C. and suburban public schools, she moved to Japan where she taught English at a University and Community College. In 2006, she taught Spanish in middle school at an international school in Yokohama, Japan. Ida uses a variety of methods in her teaching including music and the creative arts to make the learning more fun, personal and meaningful. Her goal in teaching children is to help them bridge their first language literacy skills to Spanish so they can become independent learners. Ida has traveled to Spain, Mexico and the Carribean.

Jose, a native Spanish speaker from Mexico, holds a PhD degree from the University of Guadalajara in Business Administration. Jose has taught Economy and Business Administration at the University of Los Altos and has eight years of experience teaching in various public and private schools. Jose has written for different newspapers and magazines in their political and economic section, enjoys writing in his spare time and is an enthusiastic Spanish teacher. His Spanish classes are always very dynamic and interesting. |

Born and raised in Otavalo, Ecuador, Juan received his B.A. in Linguistics from the Universidad Catolica. He enjoys working with both children and adults and has taught both group and private lessons in public and private schools since 1984. For the last 6 years he has taught his native Spanish here in Seattle. Juan is very outgoing and uses an active, communicative approach along with a good dose of humor and interactive exercises. He uses a combination of teaching modalities and tailors them to each group. Through lots of class participation and activities he helps students gain confidence using the language. At a young age he began singing and playing traditional Andean instruments and spent a number of years performing throughout Europe. He presently performs traditional South American music throughout the northwest both as a solo artist and with his band. This allows him to add a unique cultural element to his classes when his students' interests dictate.

Originally from mainland China, Jun holds degrees in Chinese Language and Literature from Fuyang Normal College and a M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language from Seattle University. Jun has eight years experience teaching Mandarin at a variety of educational institutions in both China and the United States. While teaching in China, Jun passed the National Standard Spoken Mandarin test and earned a National Teaching Mandarin certificate. Jun loves teaching Chinese Mandarin to students of all ages, both native and non-native speakers. |

Spanish
Katalin is a native Hungarian, near native in German and Spanish. She holds an M.A. from the University of Washington and another M.A. from ELTE in Budapest. Katalin began to learn German and Spanish at a very young age. After marrying her Argentine husband, Spanish became her family's home language. Katalin is a research scientist and holds a PhD in Geography. Apart from science, she is an experienced language teacher, has taught both, adults and children and works also as a translator. Katalin's language skills have widened her horizons during her travels to over 60 countries. Here in WA State, she has taught German and Spanish at the University of Washington and at Olympic College. |

Italian
Leif has lived all over the world, including significant time in Italy. He holds a B.A. from the University of Oregon and is finishing coursework in cinema and Italian for his M.A. at UW-Madison. Leif lived and studied in both Florence and Perugia at the Universita’ per Stranieri and was the assistant on UW-Madison’s summer program to Perugia. For 3 years he taught Italian to college students and has been working for Seattle Languages since 2007. The entire Italian culture such as food, wine, art, cinema, history, politics and calcio is important to him and is incorporated in his teaching, making studying the Italian language a multi-faceted and exciting experience.

French
Melanie was born in Paris. At a very young age she developed a passion for languages and started studying German, Spanish and English in Middle School. Later she graduated from La Sorbonne with a B.A. in English Literature and Translation. After moving to Chamonix in the French Alps, where she had ample occasions to perfect her tutoring skills in English and French, she traveled to Chile and Argentina to further her Spanish language skills. Before moving to Seattle, Melanie earned an additional degree in teaching French as a foreign language. Melanie is currently teaching group classes and is tutoring a variety of private students of all ages. Additionally, she is a substitute teacher for various high schools in Seattle and is in the process of earning an M.A. in Teaching from the University of Washington. As a Chinese language learner, Melanie understands the challenges of students when learning a new language. Melanie is known to teach French in a relaxed way, engaging French learners to speak without pressuring them and accommodating their language needs the best she can. In her classes Melanie also enjoys introducing her students to French culture and customs. |

Nataliya has 10 years of experience teaching Russian and English in Ukraine. She was selected as a teacher in the Soros foundation program and instructed students in both Russian and English. Since then Nataliya has been involved in different projects as an interpreter and language teacher with groups from many countries such as Japan, Ukraine, Russia, Belorussia and Armenia. In additon to these many past assignments, she taught Russian language and literature in a Russian School on Mercer Island. Nataliya feels comfortable teaching both adults and children. |

Born in Belgium, Nathalie has been teaching French since 1999. A native French speaker, she studied English in Cambridge, England before attending Law school in Brussels. After her law studies she attended the ISTI , the Institute for Translators and Interpreters, in Brussels. In 1989 she moved permanently to the US, first to Los Angeles and San Francisco and finally to Seattle in 2003. Nathalie has alsp taught at other language schools in Seattle such as the Seattle Language Academy.

Perle grew up in Versailles and studied English and music at the University of Versailles. She holds a B.A. in music and is working towards her Master's in English. She has been teaching French for 3 years at the UW and various language schools in Seattle. She enjoys teaching all those who believe they are "not" good at learning languages. |

Raan Marie
English
Raan Marie was born and raised in Miami, Florida, where she lived among Spanish speaking people and began learning Spanish at age six. She began her teaching career in music, when she taught classical piano to children and adults. While in Miami, she also taught English to Cuban, Colombian, and Brazilian young adults. Later, in Seattle, she tutored Japanese students in English, and taught writing at the University of Washington. Raan Marie’s overseas travel experience began with a trip to Europe, where she stayed in the homes of local citizens for extended periods of time, and picked up a bit of French. She has also been to Mexico and Argentina, where she again stayed with the locals. Raan Marie has a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature, with a minor in Mathematics, from the Florida State University; and a Master’s degree in English literature from the University of Washington. Over the years, she has developed a method she calls “Student-Centered Tutoring,” which focuses on the needs and desires of the student, rather than those of the tutor. She finds that this approach greatly enhances her ability to develop warm, fruitful relationships with her students. Currently, she works as a professional writer and editor, and teaches people from all over the world in English at Seattle Languages International. |

Rafael
Spanish
Rafael is a native Spanish speaker and holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature and Cinema Studies from the University of Washington. He is of Chicano descent and speaks both Mexican and Andalusian dialects of Spanish. Rafael grew up in Seattle and California and has spoken Spanish exclusively at home since birth. He has also lived in Mexico, Spain and Colombia and draws upon his experiences with these cultures to teach his courses. Rafael has previously tutored and taught at St. Therese Elementary, Green Lake Elementary and Wedgwood Elementary. When teaching children he uses stories, songs, games, homework, tests, and other educational media in order to encourage his students to practice speaking Spanish outside of class. Rafael enjoys teaching children and adults.

He has spent over eight years living and teaching in Mexico. Ron grew up in Washington and graduated from Washington State University where he earned B.A in Spanish, Education, and Bilingual Education. Since 1983 he has also taught English as a Second Language, and is currently teaching at a local community college. Ron enjoys interacting with his students and watching them make progress. |

Scott is a visiting assistant professor of French at Pacific Lutheran University. He holds a PhD in French & Critical Theory from Florida State University. He has over 10 years of university level teaching experience and has taught at the University of Puget Sound, Portland Community College, the Université de Paris IV (La Sorbonne) and Lycée Béhal. When not in class, Scott enjoys volunteering at local theaters, enjoys creative and academic writing, swimming and spending time with friends. |

Turkish
Selma has taught Turkish and worked as a Turkish interpreter for several years. In the last years she also started to teach Turkish for the Turkish American Cultural Association of Washington and has been nominated teacher of the month by Berlitz school of languages. Selma was born and raised in Turkey, understands and has taught the Turkish Culture in multiple Seminars. Selma enjoys teaching adults and children and is thrilled to see them learn Turkish and grow in their language endeavor. |

Spanish
Tsha just recently moved from Switzerland to Seattle. She speaks German, Spanish, French, and English. She has manifold teaching and tutoring experiences acquired in different fields. Her mother tongue is German. However, as she lived in Ecuador as a child, Spanish is almost her second mother tongue. In 1992 she also went back to Ecuador for half a year in order to pass the “diploma de aptitud”. Also in 1998, during her business studies, she spent an exchange trimester in Mexico City. She holds an MBA from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. During her high school and college years she tutored students in German and Spanish. She has a fascination for languages which she passes on to her students while teaching and tutoring. |

Former teacher in Vietnam (1972-1975), Tung graduated from the University of Saigon in Vietnamese Literature and History. Since 1980 he has been teaching bilingual education for the Seattle Public Schools and has offered many lectures on Vietnamese language and culture. In 1981, he begun to work with various refugee programs, especially for the Vietnamese refugees in King County. Tung has a deep knowledge and understanding of the Vietnamese language, culture and history. |

Yea-Jae

Yea-Jae, who also goes by the name of Pollyanna, is a native of Taiwan. She speaks Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese. She holds a Master in Education (TESOL) from Ohio State, and is currently pursuing her Masters in Teaching at City University. During the regular school day Yea-Jae teaches Chinese at different Elementary Schools. Yea-Jae has taught Chinese for close to a decade at heritage Chinese schools and teaches both children and adults. She believes in early success when learning a foreign language and knows that there is no one approach that fits all learners. Yea-Jae teaches Chinese in an very effective way, uses different approaches and games in her classes in order to maximize the opportunity for students to speak Chinese from the early stage.

Born and raised in China, Yu, a native Mandarin Chinese speaker, has over 15 years of teaching experience, ranging from teaching Chinese to groups of children and young adults to teaching college students. Yu holds a B.A. in Civil Law from Nanjing University and an M.A. in Environmental Law from Wuhan University in China. She also obtained a Certificate in Environmental Law and Regulation from the University of Washington. Yu Dai has comprehensive knowledge of Chinese language and culture, speaks two different Chinese dialects and enjoys teaching Mandarin Chinese to adults and children.

Yukie, a native of Japan, strives to provide and share the full range of Japanese communication, from formal presentation to colloquial conversation. She is a professional, proactive individual with valuable experience in education and language instruction. Yukie enjoys the challenge of helping students of different ages, interests and cultures to develop their Japanese language skills that help them not only in the classroom but also after their language classes have ended. Yukie has a B.A. from Western Washington University and has vast Japanese teaching experience in Japan and the United States. |

Yukiko was born and raised in Kobe, Japan. After graduating from Osaka Jogakuen Junior College in International Communications, she finished her Japanese Language Teacher Certificate in 1998. Yukiko taught Business Japanese at the Kobe International Communication Center. After arriving in Seattle in 1999 she worked as a Japanese assistant teacher at Sedro-Woolly High School. Since then she has been working as a Japanese music teacher at a local Kindergarten. She enjoys working with students of all levels, from children to adults. Yukiko also believes that using various teaching methods for each student or groups of students is very important. |

Yuliana is originally from Peru where she used to work as a Spanish teacher and as a guide in the Machu Picchu region, in the Andes of Peru. Currently Yuliana is earning a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics and in teaching Spanish as a second language. At our Language Institute she enjoys teaching Spanish to students of different language backgrounds. |

Yuri
Japanese
Yuri is a native of Japan and has over 20 years of teaching experience. She holds an A.B.A.in English Literature from Shoin Women`s College in Japan and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Washington. She has taught Japanese language and Japanese ethic classes at various community colleges as well as at private international organizations. She is often engaged by various civic organizations as a guest speaker for their seminars and classes. Yuri has just returned from Japan after spending 6 years teaching Business English for several major Japanese companies. After returning to the United States, she developed her own unique and effective method of teaching Japanese to small children. Yuri now teaches a creative Japanese course to children ages 5 through 8, at five different public Elementary Schools. Being perfectly bilingual, Yuri has a great understanding of what it takes to master a foreign language, including the relationship between language and culture and enjoys sharing her knowledge with others.
